Project Object

Macedonia Development Center is a forum where the young people of different ethnical and social background will have opportunities to meet each other and to get basic education in the field of IT. Due to the high rate of unemployment and the poor living standard of the people, only few are able to buy a computer and therefore the new technology is not accessible to all. Macedonia is long behind in the use of new technology in the government administration and other society compared with the rest of Europe. We hope that our project will contribute in a positive direction and result in practical use of IT. The aim with our project is to educate as many as possible young people in the age of 13-30 year in basic use of computers and Internet with hope to understand the correlation between the knowledge and the changes in the society.

The project will consist of:

More than 200 people will be enrolled in the project no 23 338 U. The students will be educated by the forum Macedonia Development Center in basic use of computers and Internet as specified below.

Basic Course, 10 lessons - 35 Students:

• Basic information of hardware (lesson 1);
• Introducing of operating system MS Windows XP (lessons 2 & 3):
  • Installation and setup;
  • Display properties;
  • Windows explorer;
• MS Word 2003 (lessons 4, 5, 6 & 7) :
  • Installation and setup;
  • Using of different Fonts (Macedonian);
  • Word 2003 Menu options (File, Edit, Format, Tools, Window, Help);
  • Inserting of objects, symbols and pictures;
  • Work with tables in MS Word 2003;
  • Using of drawing menu;
• Internet (lessons 8, 9 & 10) :
  • Introducing of Internet;
  • Exploring of Internet resources and searching for information;
  • Opening of free email account (on www.yahoo.com) and introduction of email communication;
  • Direct internet communication (Audio & Video) by using of yahoo chat;

Basic extended course, 20 lessons - 56 Students:

• Basic information of hardware (lessons 1 & 2);

• Photoshop CS2 as primary tool for web design (lessons 7, 8, 9 & 10):
  • Installation and Setup ;
  • Photoshop CS2, Menu Options(File, Edit, Image, Layer, Select, Filter, View, Window, Help);
  • Introduction of the work surroundings;
  • Basic tools for work with the pictures ;
  • Exporting pictures for use in the web page ;
• Dreamweaver 8 (lessons 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20):
  • Installation and Setup;
  • Dreamweaver 8 Menu Options (File, Edit, View, Insert, Modify, Text, Commands, Site, Window, Help);
  • Introduction of the work surroundings;
  • Basic tools for work with html;
  • Design a home page;

Introduction of Linux Ubuntu, 20 lessons - 28 Students:

• Introduction of Linux (lessons 1 & 2);
• Differences be twin Windows & Linux;
• Benefits and flaws of Linux Ubuntu Live CD, Presentation;
• Work with Linux Ubuntu (lessons 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10):
  • Installation and setup;
  • Introducing of the work environment ;
  • Display properties;
  • Introducing of the file system hierarchy;
  • Work with files and folders;
• OpenOffice Writer (lessons 11, 12, 13 & 14):
  • Installation and setup;
  • Using of different fonts (Macedonian);
  • OpenOffice Writer, Menu Options (File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Table, Tools, Window, Help);
  • Inserting of objects, symbols and pictures;
  • Work with tables in OpenOffice Writer;
  • Using of drawing menu;
• OpenOffice Calc (lessons 15 , 16 , 17 & 18):
  • Installation and setup;
  • Using of different fonts (Macedonian);
  • OpenOffice Calc, Menu Options (File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Data, Window, Help);
  • Inserting of objects, symbols and pictures;
  • Work with formulas ;
  • Work with Charts ;
• Internet (lessons 19 & 20):
  • Using a Mozilla Firefox;
  • Using a Mozilla Thudrebird;
  • Direct internet communication (Audio & Video) by using of Gaim;

The Target Group for the forum Macedonia Development Center is young people in the age of 13-30 years, among the students, the unemployed and those who work. The young person comes from different ethnical groups and social backgrounds in the society, but with the common aim to build a new and better future. To find a job and get employed is of crucial importance for every one today and therefore education and the knowledge in the use of new technology is of importance.

At the recruitment of the students, facts as specified below are considered:

• Young people of different ethnical and social backgrounds, the future of Macedonia is multi ethnical society;
• Both sex to be represented in the project and at least 50% women to be enrolled;
• Unemployed young people are especially to be considered due to the facts of high unemployment rate and the social risks in Macedonia.
